I graduated with Highest Distinction from the University of Kansas with a degree in Elementary Education. My Masters Degree is in Literacy Instruction from Lesley University. I continue to attend classes, conferences and workshops in order to keep current with best practices.
My teaching experience includes five years in preschool, two years substituting, eight years in kindergarten, eight years in first grade, and nine years in second grade. First grade is an exciting time when children develop and refine their skills as readers, writers, mathematicians and discoverers. I am honored to share in that journey.
I grew up in Wichita, Kansas, spending summer vacations on my grandparent's dairy farm in Ohio and hiking the mountains of Colorado with my family. I spent my youth dreaming of being a farmer and ended up living near those beautiful mountains tending to growing children's hearts and brains. I have a blended family with my husband Rick. Between us we have three grown daughters: Tess, Katie, and Laura. We have two grandsons: Hayden, 9 and Hendrix, 2. They help keep the wonder of childhood in the forefront of my mind.
In addition to teaching and spending time with family I enjoy knitting, playing tennis, reading, and spending time with friends. Mr. H. and I enjoy hiking, kayaking, cooking, and gardening together. We have a border collie, Alice Louise.
