Where Stem Learning Happens

Counseling

The school counselor visits classrooms on a weekly basis to help all students explore and manage their own feelings, develop empathy for the feelings of others, and learn social skills that promote personal, social, and academic success.  The counselor holds small groups with various students throughout the year to help students  develop, improve, and practice important social/emotional skills that will help them in their relationships with others.  In addition, the counselor assists individual students and works closely with parents and staff when special needs arise. Our goal is for all students to feel respected and show respect for themselves, others, and our world.

Other important responsibilities include coordinating the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support team, serving on the Student Success Team, writing 504 plans, McKinney Vento liaison for homeless families, facilitating the class placement process for the following school year, and coordinating the Peer Mediation program.
