Where Stem Learning Happens

Physical Education

The Colorado Department of Education has developed Physical Education Standards to ensure consistency in learning in this area. At Shepardson, movement skills are taught within a game context and in non-competitive activities. Physical fitness is a by-product of many activities. Emotional wellness, interaction skills and resilience are developed as part of the P.E. experience as children compete and cooperate with each other in class.

Our mission is to teach students how to become physically fit and how to make informed decisions that encourage lifetime wellness through participation in a variety of physical activities. Students in grades K-5 have Physical Education instruction once a week. It is imperative that they are dressed for activity by wearing gym shoes and clothing that allows for safety and ease of movement.

Fitness based activities promote positive behaviors and cognitive development in all learners. Shepardson has the Galaxy Travelers' Mileage Club that meets before and after school. Each year in the spring, all students participate in our Spring Zing Field Day, and students in grades 4-5 compete against their classmates for the opportunity to participate in the annual PSD Elementary Track Meet.

PSD does not unlawfully discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, veteran status, age or disability in access or admission to, or treatment or employment in, its programs or activities. A lack of English speaking skills will not be a barrier to admission or participation.
