School Accountability Committee (SAC) at Shepardson STEM Elementary School
The School Accountability Committee (SAC) is a site-based committee composed of staff, family, and community representatives. The SAC meets four to five times throughout the school year to help inform decisions that affect teaching and learning, as well as reviewing data and setting goals and priorities for the school. SAC meetings are open to any family or staff member, fostering transparency and inclusivity.
Key Responsibilities of the SAC:
1. Budget Recommendations The SAC recommends priorities for spending school funds, including state, federal, local, grant, and other discretionary monies. This ensures that financial resources are allocated effectively to support the school’s needs and goals.
2. School Improvement and Performance Plans The SAC advises on the school improvement plan, collaborating with the principal to enhance educational outcomes.
3. Progress Discussions The SAC holds quarterly discussions regarding the school’s progress in implementing the school improvement plan, ensuring continuous monitoring and improvement.
4. Advisory Role The SAC serves as an advisory group for the staff, sharing parent perspectives and ideas. This collaboration helps school leaders understand and address the needs and concerns of the school community.
Structure of the SAC:
The SAC will consist of at least seven members:
- Principal or designee
- One teacher
- Three adult family representatives (parents/guardians)
- One adult member of a school organization, such as PTO
- One community member
Family representatives must outnumber representatives from any other group.
