"Gifted children are students between 5 and 21 whose abilities, talents, and potential for accomplishment are so outstanding that they require special provisions to meet their educational needs. Gifted students include gifted students with disabilities (i.e. twice exceptional) and students with exceptional abilities or potential from all socio-economic and ethnic, cultural populations." (PSD Gifted and Talented)
Shepardson STEM's Gifted and Talented program strives to meet both the affective and academic needs of students who have been identified with exceptional abilities. Advanced Learning Plans are used to collaboratively develop programming and differentiation within the classroom, providing opportunities for all gifted students to demonstrate high-level thinking, creative problem solving and productivity, and positive self-esteem. At Shepardson, students work with our gifted teacher in small groups throughout the week and are also provided with differentiation by their classroom teachers.
Additional opportunities are provided through Math Olympiad, Spelling Bee, and other before and after school clubs and enrichment offerings.
