Where Stem Learning Happens

Music

Music class at Shepardson gives students an opportunity to explore musical elements through singing, playing instruments, movement, improvisation, and composition within a sequential skill set. State and national music standards drive the instructional program, which focuses on music as an expression of human culture and connection. Exposure to different genres of music throughout the world and collaboration with peers are key components of the program. The use of virtual instrument and composition tools, Orff instruments, and Modern Band instruments like guitar, ukulele, and keyboards assist all students in developing music skills and expanding their own musical talents. Students in K-5 have music instruction with a music teacher weekly. 4th and 5th graders are invited to participate in Rock Band and 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are invited to participate in Choir. Both clubs meet once weekly.
