About Me!
Hello everyone! My name is, Carlos Delano Meikel and I am the Art teacher here at Shepardson STEM Elementary School!
I was born in Torreon, Mexico, but was adopted by my parents when I was just a week or so old and brought to my home town of Paonia, Colorado, where I lived until I was 11. After the coal mine my father worked at closed down, my family was forced to move to Tooele, Utah, and then neighboring Stockton, Utah, where I lived until I was 18 and graduated high school. A month after graduation, I moved back to my beloved Colorado and Western Slope and lived in Grand Junction for 14 years. While there I worked just about every job under the sun and attended Mesa State College (now Colorado Mesa University), earned my K-12 Art Education degree there, and began my education career there as well at Chatfield Elementary and Bookcliff Middle School. In 2005 I made the move to Fort Collins and have been in PSD ever since. I have worked at Cache La Poudre Middle School, Lincoln Middle School, Bauder Elementary and now my current assignment is Shepardson STEM Elementary and Harris Bilingual Immersion School where I have happy been for the last 12 years.
I am happily married to my amazing wife, Diane who is the manager of the respiratory department here in Fort Collins at the Poudre Valley Hospital. We have a wonderful life together, including two dogs, Lizzy and Jethro.
I am a man of many likes. I am an avid reader of comic books and graphic novels. My favorite music is Country music, but I also enjoy rock, jazz and movie soundtracks. I love the outdoors, especially off-roading and fly fishing. I play a mean game of racquetball and love playing disc golf. I am a die hard Denver Broncos fan and have been since birth! I also root hard for the Rockies and Utah Jazz. I am a devout chocoholic and a connoisseur of fine bacon cheeseburgers everywhere. I absolutely love my job and love my students. I feel it is my responsibility to teach them how to be the best people they can be . . . Art just happens to be my vehicle to do this.
