About Me!

My family and I have lived in Fort Collins since I came up here for school and fell in love with the culture here in Northern Colorado. My degree is in Early Childhood Education and Human Development and Family Studies from CSU, with a "highly qualified" endorsement in Elementary Education. I've worked at Shepardson since 2011 in a variety of roles, spent a couple years teaching STEM or 4th/5th grade math, as well as 3rd grade, but most recently spent 6 years teaching 2nd grade. I'm excited to try out a new grade level and I'm really looking forward to being in 4th this year.

Many of my teaching interests and passions lie in the realm of literacy: inspiring a strong love of reading and promoting creative expression through writing is very important to me. In my classroom, students learn to love making mistakes, because that's where we find our best learning, and I feel strongly about focusing on empathy and inclusion within our room. Shepardson does Problem-Based Learning and I love the way students learn to work cooperatively and solve real world problems with STEM-y solutions. I also have a passion for inspiring a love of mathematics, especially for kiddos who need help finding strategies that work best for their individual learning style.

To share more about my family and our interests: we have 5 kiddos (several of whom also attend Shepardson) and we love spending time outside adventuring and getting messy. I'm an avid reader, particularly science fiction, and my kids are all proud to be book nerds as well. Spending time with my kids, no matter what we're doing, would have to be my favorite hobby. My husband and I have been foster parents off-and-on for the past 8 years and we are both very passionate about advocating for families and children in our community. Shepardson is one of my favorite places in the world and I hope to convey that feeling of belonging to every student in my class.
