Wayne Thornes is a former math & science teacher who became an administrator after 6 years spent coaching teachers how to transform student learning with technology. Now Shepardson’s principal, he brings a strong advocacy for STEM education, Problem-Based Learning, and innovative teaching methods to Shepardson. He also brings a commitment to fostering a collaborative learning environment that celebrates neurodiversity and cultural inclusivity. He gets excited every day about helping students demonstrate academic excellence as well as respect for themselves, our global community, and the world around us.

Laura Sutton is a former primary grades teacher and literacy coach who spent much of her career working in schools with center-based autism programs before joining Shepardson as its Assistant Principal. Laura Sutton is a passionate advocate for STEM education at Shepardson STEM Elementary School. Her expertise in curriculum development and her focus on hands-on, experiential learning have greatly enriched the educational experiences of students. Laura is also known for her efforts to promote inclusivity and kindness within the school community, ensuring that all students feel supported and empowered to achieve their full potential.

Together, Wayne Thornes and Laura Sutton are excited to support and lead the students, families, and teachers at Shepardson, as they all work together to make school a place where every student feels connected and inspired.
